Two Lovers Cafe Imagine being charged with a couple's happiness ?given love requirements and then expected to produce magic, mystery and romance. This is exactly what Lao Chen (owner of Two Lovers Cafe) does. He makes couples' dreams come true, in this small restaurant hideaway in Xisi. Two Lovers Café is just as the name suggests? an intimate little nook where wishes become reality. " "The most romantic story I can recall," says Lao Chen, "was when a young man working as a sports journalist came to me and told me that he wanted to record his words of love onto a disc for his girlfriend? he had fallen in love with her, but had never been able to actually say it out loud. He was a very busy man, and so we helped him out with the logistics of organizing the recording, helped him choose music for the evening, song by song, and then agreed to have him cook his girlfriend dinner in the kitchen of the restaurant, They arrived, and she began to listen to the recording while we all headed off to the kitchen with him to cook ?she began to cry ? the music, the words, the atmosphere, were amazing. The two are still together to this day." This is what Lao Chen does best. He takes requests from his customers and masterminds some of the most romantic and intimate dinners in Beijing. "We've had a lot of proposals, a lot of emotions in this place," he says. Two Lovers Cafe was born out of love? it was a mutual gift, jointly opened by him and his wife. "We wanted to give each other something special, and this was it," waving his arm around the approximately 30 square foot space, with a small bar in the corner, dark red walls, a movie screen, and one elegantly set table ?space enough for two. The food is prepared by former chefs of the Tianlun and Intercontinental hotels. Set meals are the most popular on the menu for approximately? 80-240 depending on the food featured. One set meal includes pate, cream of mushroom soup, fruit salad (with honey and yogurt), grilled salmon steaks, dessert, and coffee/tea. While patrons dine, they choose their own music, they can opt to view a film, or they can simply dine without a fuss? conversation the theme. Basically, what the customer says, goes. The waiting staff is only present to deliver food, or refill a glass. Couples are left alone, "The majority of people who come in here call in advance, and plan their evenings," says Lao Chen, "It is not very often that someone just pops in off the street. Every customer has a story." Last Valentine's Day saw Two Lovers Cafe with bookings months in advance but this year they have a different strategy. "We have a competition on our website," says Lao Chen. "We're asking people to send in their plans for their most romantic evening at the restaurant, and send in their love stories. The best ideas, and the most romantic love stories will win and dine in the restaurant on Valentines Day." Their website is www.your-bar.com, so enter to win.... but it better be good. They've had their fair share of romance. You can read more of the love stories from Two Lovers Cafe on the website. 原载:City Weekend2003年2月26日 |
